Introduction

Breadcrumb is designed with your privacy as our top priority. This privacy policy explains what information our extension collects, how it's used, and the steps we take to protect your data.

Breadcrumb operates entirely locally within your browser. We do not collect, transmit, store, or have access to any of your data.

Data Collection and Storage

What we collect: Breadcrumb only stores the following information:

• URLs of webpages you visit
• Your scroll position on those pages
• The timestamp of your visits
• Any text you highlight using Breadcrumb's highlighting feature
• Your extension settings

How it's stored: All of this data is stored locally using Chrome's storage APIs:

• chrome.storage.sync (if you choose the sync option) - This allows your data to sync across your devices where you're signed into Chrome
• chrome.storage.local (if you choose local storage or as a fallback) - This keeps your data only on your current device

Where it's stored: All data remains completely within your browser. We do not use any external servers, databases, or analytics platforms. Your data never leaves your device(s) except through Chrome's built-in sync service if you enable that option.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not share your data with any third parties because we never have access to it. Breadcrumb:

• Does not use any analytics or tracking services
• Does not have a backend server component
• Does not transmit data anywhere outside your browser
• Does not integrate with any third-party services

Data Control and Retention

You have complete control over your data:

• You can set expiry periods for your saved data (7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 1 year, or keep forever)
• You can clear all your data at any time through the extension settings
• You can choose between synced or local-only storage
• You can disable the extension temporarily or uninstall it completely to stop any data collection

When you uninstall the extension:

• Local storage data is automatically removed by Chrome
• Sync storage data may persist in your Chrome account until you clear it

Permissions Explained

Breadcrumb requires the following permissions:

• storage: To save your scroll positions, highlights, and settings
• activeTab: To access and modify the content of the page you're viewing (for highlights and scroll position)
• tabs: To track when you revisit a page and restore your position
• scripting: To add the highlighting functionality to webpages

Breadcrumb doesn't request any unnecessary permissions and doesn't have access to sensitive information like browsing history, cookies, or form data.

Children's Privacy

Breadcrumb is not specifically directed at children under 13, though it can be used by anyone. Since we don't collect any personal information, there are no special provisions for children's data.

Changes to This Policy

If we make substantial changes to this privacy policy, we will:

• Update the policy on this page
• Update the "last updated" date below
• Notify users via the extension when possible
