Getting Started with UnitBuddy

UnitBuddy is a powerful unit conversion tool for Chrome that supports a wide range of unit conversions including temperature, length, weight, volume, speed, pressure, energy, power, and currency.

Basic Usage

  1. Click on the UnitBuddy icon in your Chrome browser
  2. Enter a value to convert
  3. Select the conversion type (e.g., Temperature, Length)
  4. Choose your source and target units
  5. The result will be displayed immediately

When using currency conversion, click the "Update Currency Rates" button to retrieve the latest exchange rates.

Yes, in the Settings tab, you can choose between Standard, Scientific, and Engineering notation.

Conversion Formulas

UnitBuddy uses the following formulas for accurate unit conversions:

Temperature Conversions

Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
Example: 20°C = (20 × 9/5) + 32 = 68°F
Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F - 32) × 5/9
Example: 68°F = (68 - 32) × 5/9 = 20°C
Celsius to Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15
Example: 20°C = 20 + 273.15 = 293.15K
Kelvin to Celsius: °C = K - 273.15
Example: 293.15K = 293.15 - 273.15 = 20°C
Fahrenheit to Kelvin: K = (°F - 32) × 5/9 + 273.15
Example: 68°F = (68 - 32) × 5/9 + 273.15 = 293.15K
Kelvin to Fahrenheit: °F = (K - 273.15) × 9/5 + 32
Example: 293.15K = (293.15 - 273.15) × 9/5 + 32 = 68°F
Rankine to Celsius: °C = (°R - 491.67) × 5/9
Example: 527.67°R = (527.67 - 491.67) × 5/9 = 20°C
Celsius to Rankine: °R = (°C × 9/5) + 491.67
Example: 20°C = (20 × 9/5) + 491.67 = 527.67°R

Length Conversions

Length conversions use the meter (m) as the base unit. All conversions go through the base unit:

Currency Conversion

Currency conversion uses real-time exchange rates fetched from a third-party API. The base currency is USD, and all conversions are calculated through this base:

Convert from Currency A to Currency B: Value in Currency B = (Value in Currency A / Rate of A) × Rate of B
Example: To convert 100 EUR to GBP, if EUR rate is 0.93 and GBP rate is 0.79, then 100 EUR = (100 / 0.93) × 0.79 = 84.95 GBP
