  2. Browsing: As you read webpages, your scroll position is automatically saved.
  3. Returning: When you revisit a page, you'll be automatically scrolled to where you left off.
  4. Highlighting: Select any text and press ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + H to highlight important passages.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Breadcrumb handle my data?

Breadcrumb stores all data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs. Your data never leaves your browser except through Chrome's sync service if you enable that option. We have no access to your data and don't use any external servers or analytics. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

Does Breadcrumb work on all websites?

Breadcrumb works on most websites, but some sites with complex layouts, infinite scrolling, or those that dynamically load content may have limitations. Additionally, sites that use their own scroll position tracking might interfere with Breadcrumb.

Why aren't my highlights saving on some websites?

Some websites implement security measures that prevent DOM modifications or have complex content structures that can interfere with the highlighting feature. In these cases, scroll position tracking should still work even if highlighting doesn't.

How do I remove a highlight?

Currently, there's no built-in way to remove individual highlights. You can either refresh the page to temporarily hide them (they'll reappear on your next visit), or clear all data for that specific page through the dashboard by clicking "Clear Data" in the settings.

Is there a limit to how many pages Breadcrumb can remember?

If you're using Chrome sync storage, there's a limit of approximately 100KB of data. For local storage, the limit is much higher (typically 5MB). If you reach these limits, Breadcrumb will automatically remove the oldest entries to make room for new ones.

Does Breadcrumb work on mobile?

Breadcrumb currently only works on desktop Chrome. We're considering developing a mobile version in the future.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Breadcrumb isn't restoring my position

  • Make sure the extension is enabled
  • Check if the website has changed significantly since your last visit (different layout, content changes)
  • Try disabling other scroll-related extensions that might interfere
  • Clear your browser cache and reload the page

Highlighting isn't working

  • Ensure the highlight feature is enabled in settings
  • Check if you're using the correct keyboard shortcut: ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + H
  • Some websites restrict content selection or have complex DOM structures that prevent highlighting
  • Try highlighting smaller sections of text at a time

Dashboard is empty or not showing all my pages

  • Check your storage settings - if you switched between sync and local, your data might be in the other storage type
  • Verify that you haven't accidentally cleared your data
  • Check if you've set a short expiry period for entries
